Suzi Roberts came tantalizingly close to becoming Miss South Carolina in 2016, finishing as first runner-up. She’ll have another chance in 2017, this time representing her home state’s capital.
Roberts won the Miss Columbia pageant Sunday night, and will head to the state competition in June alongside Jordyn Fox, the new Miss Capital City, also crowned Sunday. Roberts’ win is good news for neglected and abused children, as she volunteers with organizations devoted to helping them and will use the pageant spotlight to advocate for them.
“Columbia is where I’ve made home starting my adult life,” Roberts, a Lowcountry native and University of South Carolina alumna. “A lot of my service work is done in Columbia both with Children’s Trust of South Carolina and with Richland County Casa.”
“It’s amazing,” Roberts said of the opportunity to represent Columbia. She was Miss Coastal Islands in 2016. This year, her jazz dance performance earned her first place in the Miss Columbia talent competition in addition to her overall win.
In Sunday’s competition for girls 17 and under, Emily Schultz won Miss Columbia Teen while Lindsey Gunther took the Miss Capital City Teen sash and crown. All four winners advance to the Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen competition, scheduled for June at Township Auditorium in Columbia.
