Town Theatre kicks off the holidays with ‘Miracle on 34th Street’

A holiday classic from the writer of The Music Man! and based on the movie of the same name, Miracle on 34th Street features a book and score by none other than Meredith Willson. Single mother, Doris Walker, doesn’t want her daughter Susan to have a head full of romantic notions. Their neighbor, Fred Gailey, tries to woo Doris by charming Susan and taking her to see Santa Claus at Macy’s. Doris is not impressed. When it appears that Macy’s Santa may, in fact, be the real Kris Kringle, a wave of love spreads across New York City that melts even the most cynical hearts.

Cortlin Collins (South Pacific, The Little Mermaid) and Megan Douthitt (Mary Poppins, Willy Wonka) lead the cast alternating as no-nonsense mother Doris Walker. Her precocious daughter, Susan, is played by Ella Harman (Willy Wonka) and Juliet Gregg (Beauty and the Beast Jr., Peter Pan Jr.). Joel Yarborough (Les Misérablés, Spamalot) delights as leading man, Fred Gaily, and Bobby Rogers (A Christmas Carol) brings warmth and personality to the beloved role of Kris Kringle. Doris’ boss, R.H. Macy, and overzealous personal assistant, Marvin Shellhammer, are played by Town veterans Bill DeWitt (White Christmas, Fox on the Fairway) and Corey Langley (The Addams Family, Catch Me If You Can), respectively.

Miracle is directed by Charlie Goodrich, with musical direction by Sharon McElveen Altman, choreography by Christy Shealy Mills and costuming by Jillian Carey. Danny Harrington serves as the scenic and lighting designer with Molly Jankowski as stage manager. Don’t let the holiday season pass you by without catching this great show!
