Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Irmo High School, the South Carolina Education Association will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the South Carolina implementation of the new Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), and how it will affect and improve public education in our state. Discussions will also include how this election year may affect the implementation of ESSA.
There will be a reception from 5:15 to 6:00 pm prior to the Town Hall proceedings. Opening statements will be delivered by The SCEA ESSA implementation team leaders: Oak Point Elementary School Resource Teacher Dr. Sandra Ray and HB Rhame Elementary School teacher and National Teaching Fellow Stephanie Johnson. The Town Hall will be moderated by Cynthia Hardy of OnPoint! talk radio and Horrell Hill Elementary School Music Director SheaAaron Burns.
Panelists will include:
- SC Department of Education Superintendent Molly Spearman
- SCEA President Bernadette R. Hampton
- SC PTA President Tanya Robinson
- Richland and Lexington County School District Representatives
- Representatives of the SC Business Community
The town hall will provide crucial information about the new federal ESSA law and the localized implementation plan to ensure there will be a maximum benefit to our South Carolina public education students.
