“Thirteen Reasons Why” Author Coming to Richland Library

Columbia, SC– Gaining popularity after the recent adaptation of his book to a Neflix television series, the author of Thirteen Reasons Why is coming to Columbia. Join Richland Library from 2:30 – 5:30 p.m., Saturday, June 17 for An Afternoon with Jay Asher at our Main location (1431 Assembly Street).

The award-winning writer plans to read excerpts from his books as well as talk about his career and writing background. A question-and-answer session is set to follow the author discussion. In addition, attendees have an opportunity to buy some of Asher’s books, including What Light that just hit bookshelves in December 2016, and have the author sign them.

Originally published in 2007, the Chicago Tribune describes Thirteen Reasons Why as “eerie, beautiful and devastating” while the New York Times portrays it as “a stealthy hit with staying power… thriller-like pacing.” The novel was adapted into a Netflix television series in March 2017. It is considered one of the most watched Netflix television series of all time, and a second series is currently in the works.

Because the novel and Netflix television series focus on the controversial and emotional topic of suicide, especially among teenagers, Richland Library also plans to include informational tables for the South Carolina Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative and Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands.
