SCDNR to host fishing rodeos, clinics throughout state

scdnr fishing rodeo

With warmer temperatures approaching, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is preparing to host a series of youth fishing rodeos and family fishing clinics around South Carolina.

Youth ages six to 15 participating in the rodeos must be accompanied by an adult and no adult fishing is allowed.  Participants need to bring their own fishing equipment and tackle. Bait is provided at some of the rodeos.  Pre-registration is preferred, but on-site registration is available for most events.  Sign-in occurs 15 to 30 minutes prior to the session start time.  Register online at www.dnr.sc.gov/aquaticed/rodeos or call 803-737-8483.

Family fishing clinics are designed to introduce the basics of fishing to the young, old or those who need a refresher to increase their future participation in the sport.  Participants will learn skills such as how to tie a fishing knot, rig a rod and reel, and casting. The best part is everyone gets to try their hand at fishing!  These clinics are sponsored by SCDNR Aquatic Education and are free of charge.  Register online at www.dnr.sc.gov/aquaticed/fishingclinic.  For more information regarding an upcoming family fishing clinic event or to host an event, contact SCDNR via email at AquaticEd@dnr.sc.gov or call 803-737-8483.  Please check the website regularly as clinics are posted online when scheduled.
