Palmetto Place’s annual charity event “Putting for Palmetto Place” is coming up in October.
The two-day event will include a pre-tournament Putting Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 19 at the City Market Place, 705 B Gervais St., Columbia, and a golf tournament beginning at noon Oct. 23 at Golden Hills Country Club, 100 Scotland Drive, in Lexington.
Last year, the event raised more than $20,000 for children and teens living at the shelter. This year they hope to raise $30,000 to support their programs.
Palmetto Place is a home for abused and neglected children and homeless teens from across the state of South Carolina. The shelter provides a safe and nurturing environment where children have access to after-school programs, tutoring, recreational and social activities. The organization offers a broad range of services that concentrate on personal healing and development including medical attention, mental health care, crisis adjustment and transitional counseling. In 2016, the shelter expanded from one house with 20 beds, to two houses with more than 50 beds. Since the shelter opened in 1977 more than 7,000 children and teens have called Palmetto Place home.
The Putting Party will feature a Lowcountry boil, open bar and live music by Not Even Brothers. Guests will have the opportunity to win some great prizes and auction items from a silent auction.
The tournament will feature a free lunch and Bloody Mary bar in the clubhouse prior to a noon shotgun start. Golfers will compete for first, second and last place prizes. In addition, the tournament will include games and chances to win such prizes as an Aurelius Emperor Driver valued at $350 or a $500 Zovatti watch.
As one of the Midland’s most affordable charity events, tickets to the party are just $40, or $75 for two, and includes complementary valet parking for party guests. Golf teams of four are $400 and include tickets to the Putting Party.
