Power of the Purse returns May 19, 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the University of South Carolina Alumni Center. This annual event, hosted by Women in Philanthropy (WIP), raises money for women and children in need in the community. This year’s fundraising focus is to help Midlands families reach financial stability.
This event is United Way of the Midlands’ Women in Philanthropy signature fundraiser. Event proceeds support the United Way’s financial stability initiative.
“It’s a great night out and a way to have a lot of fun while helping a good cause,” said Leigh Hewlett Greene, Women in Philanthropy Communications Vice Chair. “We had over 350 people come out last year and expect to have even more this year.”
The event features a one-of-a-kind live and silent auction of designer purses, accessories, spa and restaurant packages and other unique items. For the second year in a row, the “Bourbon, Bacon & Blues” area will be included, featuring unique auction items for men. Women in Philanthropy is happy to announce that online, early bidding is being offered for the first time in Power of the Purse history. Find it here.
New or gently used luggage, backpacks, duffle bags, and purses will be collected at the event for donation to Family Shelter, a United Way Partner Agency.
Tickets are $40 for WIP members and $50 for non-members. Purchase them online here.
