LEXINGTON — Teachers at Pleasant Hill Middle School awarded one graduating student a special honor in recognition of her leadership and service-minded attitude.

Eighth-Grader Ana’liza M. Jeffcoat received the Daughters of the American Revolution Youth Citizenship Medal, an award voted on by PHMS eighth-grade teachers. PHMS chooses one eighth-grade girl to receive the honor each year.

The medal, formerly the Good Citizenship Medal, honors students who exemplify service to others, courage, leadership and patriotism. Students in grades five to 11 are eligible to receive the Youth Citizenship Medal.
