Pelion High athletes bring drug-free message to PES

Athletes from Pelion High School continued the PHS Athletes as Readers and Leaders program this fall at Pelion Elementary. For the October visit, they brought an important message that coincided with Red Ribbon Week.

Four student-athletes, along with members of the PHS Lexington One Community Coalition club, read to elementary students and discussed the importance of reading, wellness, nutrition, academics, leadership and staying drug-free.

“PHS Athletes as Readers and Leaders is an excellent opportunity for our athletes to share and encourage younger students in the Pelion community,” PHS Athletic Director Dann R. Holland said.

Upcoming trips to Forts Pond Elementary and PES during the winter and spring athletic seasons will reinforce the message as the program inspires the younger students with relatable role models.
