Title: Communications & Community Engagement Director

Based at: 930 Richland St. Columbia SC 29201

Position Reports to: Board of Directors Chair and Executive Committee

Description: Columbia Opportunity Resource (COR) is seeking an individual with exceptional communications and leadership skills that supports COR’s mission of connecting talented professionals in the greater Columbia area to diverse and meaningful networks for leadership, service, and fun.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop relationships with other Columbia based professional organizations and key community leaders
  • Engage professionals across all demographics for potential partnerships and members
  • Oversee COR’s digital presence (website, social media, youtube, eventbrite, etc.)
  • Copy edit print, radio, and web based content
  • Create organization literature (direct mail, brochures, newsletters, press releases, annual report, etc.)
  • Lead creative feature projects (videos, graphics, etc.)
  • Identify potential advertisers for timely and useable ad submissions
  • Coordinate programmatic events (volunteer, professional development, and fun)
    • Report/organize budgetary information to outside accountant
    • Vendor selection and coordination
    • Sponsorships
    • Recruiting volunteers when applicable
  • Promote initiatives through public relations efforts
  • Compile contact lists
  • Collect relevant metric information from events and membership
  • Maintain membership database
    • Initiate renewal campaigns
    • Enroll new members
  • Attend and manage all Board and organizational committee meetings to achieve cohesive efforts
  • Work with Board Executive Committee to maintain regional financial support
  • Research and pursue appropriate potential grant opportunities
  • Prepare agendas and relevant supplemental documents for Board Meetings
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and their overall vision

Ideal candidates have established relationships in the greater Columbia area and passionate about the mission and vision of COR. This individual is entrepreneurial in spirit with innovation laced in all efforts to keep COR relevant and useful for the community. Three to five years of experience with non-profit management and/or communications is required. Exceptional work ethic and self-motivation are required to effectively achieve all outlined responsibilities. This opportunity serves as platform to propel selected individual forward in the community and requires a strong sense of self as this role serves as the primary spokesperson for COR.
