A gymnastics superstar is coming to Columbia, SC.
2016 Olympic Gold Medalist Laurie Hernandez will spend Friday, August 4, at Carolina Gymnastics, located at 437 Rabon Road in Columbia.
Gymnastic students will have the opportunity to meet Hernandez and win other prizes, all to raise funds for the late Coach Pam Mobley. Money raised will be donated to help pay medical bills incurred by her 10-year battle with breast cancer and for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The more money each student raises will earn he or she more prizes and more time to spend with Hernandez. Top prizes include a private gymnastics clinic and lunch with the medalist.
The event is exclusive, available only to fundraisers and their select guests.
Hernandez herself is only 17 years old, yet has already earned a lifetime of remarkable gymnastics achievements.
As a competitive junior gymnast, starting at the age 12, Hernandez competed internationally and won medals in all-around, balance beam, uneven bars, vault, and floor exercise.
She joined the senior circuit in 2016, and was one of only five gymnasts selected for the Rio Summer Olympics team. Hernandez helped the team win gold in the Team All Around, and she also won a silver medal on the balance beam.
