Columbia, SC – PEARLZ UPSTAIRZ will change up their weekend music programming starting Thursday, February 9, 2017. Pearlz is a strong supporter of live music – especially jazz music. Pearlz Upstairz is one of Columbia’s finest lounges situated above Pearlz Oyster Bar in the Vista with a full bar, great seating, is upscale, but very comfortable and welcoming.

Trumpeter Mark Rapp, recent Jasper Artist of the Year award recipient, will return to the dedicated Thursday night jazz soiree every Thursday from 9p-12a. He will lead his quartet featuring guitarist Amos Hoffman who in 2013 was awarded one of Israel’s most prestigious prizes – The Landau Prize for Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Achievement in the field of Jazz. Also joining Rapp is bassist Dustin Retzlaff and drummer Chris Church. The Mark Rapp Quartet will present a variety of jazz including originals, swing, bossa nova, groove, classic and modern.

The 6-piece Soda City Brass Band will launch on Friday, February 10 and play every Friday night from 10p-1a. SCBB is a New Orleans styled brass band playing everything from famous traditional songs to some of the more modern brass band repertoire including songs by Trombone Shorty, The Youngblood Brass Band, Soul Rebels and more. SCBB on Friday nights at Pearlz Upstairz will not only fulfill the New Orleans jazz listener, but provide fun, funky, grooving music for those who want to enjoy the groove. Tony Lee, a drummer and bandleader in the Columbia-area for over a decade will soon lead a variety of trios on Saturday nights. He will have two nights (March 18 and April 1) leading up to his weekly offerings in June and onwards. He will focus more on popular music and singer-songwriter styles. Anticipated artists joining him are the celebrated Prettier Than Matt, Don and Sara-Ann Russo, Alex Galan, Catie Galan, Laurel Mac and more.

“I could not be more excited about playing Thursday nights and establishing this as an awesome jazz night to come hear the best in jazz. Pearlz Upstairz is an awesome lounge and a perfect venue for this. I love the vibe in the room. It will always be exciting, cool and deep in the music every week,” says Mark Rapp. Rapp continues, “As for the launch of the Soda City Brass Band, it is going to absolutely blow the city away! A homegrown, funky New Orleans styled brass band is a recipe for endless nights of fun!”
