Getting to Know Cayce’s Leading Lady: Mayor Elise Partin

If you have ever driven through the city of Cayce, you will notice a few things: great local restaurants and businesses, fantastic location with it being right beside the river and so close to Columbia, and the amazing people who call Cayce home.

Over the past few years, the city of Cayce has gone through an incredible makeover including the edition of brand-new apartment complexes and marketplace areas. Many of these projects would not have been possible if it weren’t for one powerful woman with a vision, Mayor Elise Partin.

Mayor Partin has been the mayor of Cayce since 2008 and has been working tirelessly to make the city of Cayce the very best it can be.

I was given the opportunity to talk with Mayor Partin about her role in bettering Cayce and learning more about what she stands for. Here are some highlights from my interview with her:

What inspired you to run for office in 2008?

I had grown up seeing the impact people have at the municipal level. I wanted to make a difference in my community and not only make it better for my children but for others and their families. The time came for me to step up and play a role in bettering my city.

In your opinion, what are the best qualities about Cayce?

Location, location, location! We have the river that provides plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities and natural beauty. We have access to two major interstates giving residents great transportation options. The airport is actually in Cayce although it is called the Columbia airport. Also with Columbia being so close, we are able to go downtown and enjoy the day or afternoon exploring the city.

Furthermore, the best quality about Cayce is our residents! Sixty percent have lived here for twenty years or more, which means Cayce is not only a great place to live, but a great place to stay and raise a family. The people of Cayce are also deeply invested in our city, we even have a museum which is unheard of for a city our size!

What have you loved most about being the Mayor of Cayce?

Well first, it is a great honor to serve Cayce. I really appreciate the ability to stand in the gap of making decisions and having communications with the people and businesses. Second, it is a great service. Being able to serve my community and meet their needs is the reason I work so hard. Finally, I love having the opportunity to make the city where my kids, and other families, grow up safe and fun and truly give it vibrancy.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

In 6th grade, I played basketball against globetrotters!! Sadly that was the last of my basketball career.

Are you a Clemson or Carolina fan?

CAROLINA! I graduated from USC and have always been a huge Gamecock, but my house is divided. My husband and son Clemson fans while my daughter and I are Carolina fans. Makes for interesting game days!

Mayor Partin is seeking another term this coming November and I think I speak for all when I say I wish her best of luck and cannot wait for more amazing growth and success for Cayce and its residents!
