Midlands Technical College’s White Presented with Order of the Palmetto

Dr. Marshall White, Jr., outgoing president of Midlands Technical College has been awarded the Order of the Palmetto by South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. The award is the state’s highest civilian honor awarded for extraordinary lifetime achievement and service to the state.

White was recognized for his tireless personal investment in establishing a pipeline of workers for new and expanding businesses. As the Chair of the SC Technical Education System’s Presidents’ Council, he laid out a blueprint for his peers that ensured impactful attention to the needs of industry for technical college job-ready graduates. White also led statewide efforts that have dramatically influenced the bond between public education and workforce development, thereby laying a solid foundation for continued economic success.

“He is a leader whose efforts have improved the quality of life for generations of South Carolinians to come,” said Randall “Mack” Jackson, Chair of the Midlands Technical College Commission. “His impact on education and economic development in South Carolina are outstanding examples of the best attributes to be admired in a leader.”

White is retiring this month after nearly nine years as MTC president.
