LEXINGTON — A trio of engineering-minded Meadow Glen Elementary School students won a regional competition this year despite tough competition.

Third-Graders Tristan M. Lotter, Akshay Pawar and Sarah Tao won the elementary division at the Regional Autonomous Robotics Circuit robotics competition, sponsored by It-oLogy in Columbia.

Using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit, the students built and programmed their robot to perform all challenges specified for the competition guidelines. The pressure was on as they operated the robot in front of five judges and a live audience.

Lotter, Pawar and Tao scored a near-perfect score of 330 in the second round of the competition to win against a more seasoned team from Center of Knowledge.

Even more remarkable, the MGES team received the highest score in the elementary, middle and high school divisions despite being the youngest team in the elementary division.
