MEDAL OF HONOR recipients participate in Camden “staff ride”

By W. Thomas Smith Jr.

CAMDEN, S.C. – Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, USMC (Ret.), and LT Michael E. Thornton, U.S. Navy SEALs (Ret.) – both recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for combat valor – were among the approximately 40 guests at the first annual Medal of Honor Staff Ride this morning in historic Camden, S.C.

A bus and walking tour of military sites in-and-around Camden, the staff ride was led by Professor David L. Preston, an award-winning military historian and the Westvaco Professor of National Security Studies at The Citadel.

The ride included tours and discussions of the Lord Cornwallis house and grounds, the Battle of Camden historic site, and other militarily significant points of interest.

The Medal of Honor staff ride was the kickoff event for the Mullikin Law Carolina Cup 2017 weekend. The Cup will be held Sat. Apr. 1 at the Springdale Racecourse in Camden.
