Cobb Theatres, a nationally recognized Motion Picture exhibition company based in Birmingham, Alabama, announced Wednesday that they have signed a lease and plan to build a new 10-screen Cobb Luxury Theatre at The Commons at Bull Street project in Columbia.
The state- of-the-art cinema is slated to be open by the summer of 2018.
“We are very excited to be joining The Commons at Bull Street as its entertainment anchor”, said Frank Stryjewski, Chief Operations Officer of Cobb Theatres. “We are dedicated to offering our guests the finest movie-going experience available by offering the best movies, amenities and service to every guest.”
The theatre will have 10 screens with all reserved, oversized and overstuffed electric reclining seats, a full service restaurant and bar offering creative American Bistro cuisine, with hand-crafted pizzas and a selection of beer and wine for those who may or may not be there to enjoy a movie. The theatre complex will also feature a self-serve, walk through concession area offering all your favorite drinks, snacks and candies, including soft serve yogurt with an assortment of toppings to choose from.
Robert Hughes, COO of Hughes Development, the company serving as master developer for The Commons at Bull Street, released a statement on the lease signing.
“We were excited to learn today that Cobb Theatres has executed a lease to bring their Luxury concept to the Commons at BullStreet. This announcement for the retail development within BullStreet fits perfectly with our vision of a family-friendly environment where people from all walks of life can experience a first-class city within a city.
“As master developer, we are very pleased with the progress made on BullStreet to date. Two buildings have been renovated (The Bakery and Parker Annex), another one is starting (Ensor), and we have built a first-class office building (First Base Building). Our partner developers are in the process of renovating the Babcock Building into apartments, awaiting County Council approval on student housing, working on approvals for townhomes, and in the pre-development stage for other major projects. We are the first urban gigabit neighborhood in South Carolina, and all of this has happened while Spirit Communications Park has shattered attendance records for professional sports in Columbia
“Today’s announcement exemplifies the success our retail development partner is having and we are energized by their progress. BullStreet as a whole is still a 20-year project, but we are ahead of schedule and are excited for what lies ahead.”
