Friday, March 31st, 5pm

Hip-Hop Artist Exhibition: Millwood Mural

For several years, a half-painted wall near the intersection of Millwood and Gervais Streets has remained unfinished. Local artist and Love, Peace & Hip-Hop board member Cedric Umoja has taken on the task (along with two other professional muralists) of completing this 16ft x 125ft wall to help uplift the surrounding neighborhoods and bring the community together. Join Love, Peace & Hip-Hop as they help unveil this exciting new mural.

 

Monday, April 3rd, 3:30-5:30pm

Kick-Off Event at EdVenture: Hip-Hop Bounce House Party

Kick off a week of Love, Peace & Hip-Hop with a free, family-fun event at EdVenture. Using music and literacy to motivate and educate, award-winning musician and storyteller Kobie Da Wiz will be onstage for an afternoon filled with DJs, B-Boy Dance Crews and bouncy houses.

Allen University Hip-Hop Studies Conference (Day 1)

Allen University is hosting its third annual Hip-Hop Studies Conference with panel presentations by scholars from various universities and non-profit institutions throughout the country. The conference will feature exciting workshops on emceeing, beatmaking and breakdancing that are open to all participants. With the theme of “Spirituality and Social Justice,” this conference will explore how hip- hop culture can be interpreted as a response to the civil rights movements of the mid-20th century. Previous keynote speakers have included noted hip-hop artists KRS-One, Daddy-O of Stetsasonic and Chris “Play” Martin of Kid ‘N Play.

New Brookland Tavern “Beat Street Beat Battle”

Experience a classic hip-hop beat battle at New Brookland Tavern at 122 State Street in West Columbia. Showcasing SC’s most talented hip-hop producers as they battle for glory, this will be an unforgettable night celebrating the heartbeat of hip-hop.

Allen University Hip-Hop Studies Conference (Day 2)

Da Cold Warrior Book Release and Album Re-Release Party at Tapp’s Art Center

Learn the story behind Love, Peace & Hip-Hop founder FatRat Da Czar at the release of Da Cold Warrior. Part memoir and part companion piece to his Cold War trilogy, this book commemorates the ten-year anniversary of a career-defining body of work. Enjoy an exhibit by photographer Larry J. Frazier of images featured in the book, as well as a live set by FatRat Da Czar with songs from Da Cold War trilogy and his latest project RailRoad.
