Local Special Olympic Athletes Training for USA Games

The question most commonly asked is “When are the Special Olympics?”  The answer:  All year round!

If you aren’t connected directly to Special Olympics South Carolina and our local area programs you may not know that Special Olympics South Carolina serves 22,593 children and adults in our state.  You may not know that we are the 7th largest program in the country and we’re constantly growing and expanding our programs.

Not only do our athletes train year round for local, state and regional competitions, they train for national and international competitions.  Since last fall, many of our local athletes have been training for the 2014

USA Games in New Jersey, June 14-21.  This is a tremendous opportunity for our athletes to travel and fellowship with athletes from around the United States.  13 athletes and coaches from Lexington County have been working hard training in their sports.  Team South Carolina will have 169 athletes and coaches from around the state competing in 15 sports.

The 2014 Special Olympics USA Games will showcase abilities of athletes and promote the ideals of acceptance and inclusion through sport, celebrating the transformative power of Special Olympics.  There will be 3,500 athletes, 1,000 coaches and delegates, 10,000 Volunteers and 70,000 Spectators and families.    Capitalized some categorized of people and not all of them.

You can help support Team SC and our athletes by making a donation through our website, www.so-sc.org. Updates will be posted online and through social media.  Follow #TeamSC on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
