PELION, S.C. — Support from a local business allowed Pelion Elementary to purchase a new addition for the school’s playground this year.

Inspired by a student named Christian from Pennsylvania, schools across the country use Buddy Benches to foster new friendships. Students can sit on the bench to indicate they need a friend, and other students are encouraged to invite them to play.

D&T Steel Inc. of Pelion donated funds to PES for a Buddy Bench, and the school installed the bench on Friday, September 15. Representatives from D&T Steel joined the PES Safety Patrol, PES PTO board members, and members of the PES administration and guidance department for the unveiling.

Students have formed new friendship since the bench arrived. They say the Buddy Bench is a great tool for new students to make friends when they are scared and do not know anyone.
