Lizard’s Thicket on Elmwood temporarily closing for renovations

Lizard’s Thicket, the nearly 40-year-old, family-owned and operated restaurant specializing in traditional Southern fare with 15 locations in South Carolina, announces plans to close its 818 Elmwood Ave. location for a few months for renovations beginning Monday, June 5, 2017.

The Williams family, which owns and operates all Lizard’s Thicket restaurants, opened the Elmwood location in 1986 as their seventh restaurant and the first Lizard’s Thicket with a drive–thru. Elmwood is known as a frequent stop for visiting politicians and dignitaries, including Bill Clinton, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum. Bloomberg News, Fox News, the David Webb Show and Candy Carson have also stopped at the Elmwood Lizard’s Thicket.

All Lizard’s Thickets have regular, frequent customers with long-running relationships with their favorite servers and staff members. The Elmwood location, in particular, boasts a well-loved staff of 37 employees.

“We have so many long-time customers that love the Lizard’s Thicket Elmwood location, and we want to update the restaurant as a thank you to them,” said Bobby Williams, Chairman of Lizard’s Thicket. “The renovations will reflect an updated look and feel that our newer locations have, but customers will instantly feel at home and of course, we’ll still serve the delicious traditional Southern cooking our customers know and love.”

Renovations will update the exterior and interior of the restaurant to look more like other newer Lizard’s Thicket buildings and include increased parking, USB charging stations at many tables, upgraded Wi-Fi capability, a totally remodeled dining room with new booths, increased access to the drive-thru, HardiPlank siding, and state-of-the-art kitchen equipment

All 37 of Lizard’s Thicket employees will remain and the company has given each employee the opportunity to work at any other Lizard’s Thicket while the Elmwood location is closed for renovations.

While the Elmwood Lizard’s Thicket is closed, customers are encouraged to try nearby locations at 402 Beltline Blvd. and 501 Knox Abbot Drive. All other locations and their addresses are listed at www.LizardsThicket.com. Lizard’s Thicket will announce plans for the grand re-opening of the Elmwood location in the fall.
