The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), along with partners SCE&G and Dreher Shoals Sail & Power Squadron, will host a ribbon cutting for a new Life Jacket Loaner Station at Lake Murray’s Larry Koon Landing at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4. The event will be held at 1523 Shull Avenue, Gilbert, SC, 29054.

According to research, most drownings can be prevented if people wear personal flotation devices. The Life Jacket Loaner Station will serve to increase the use of life jackets among the boating public, as well as educate people on the importance of proper use and fit. Power Squadron volunteers will keep the station stocked with life jackets of various sizes that can be borrowed by children and adults when in and around the water, and then returned for someone else to use.

“The safety of the public while on the water is our number-one priority,” SCDNR Lt. Kim Leverich stated, “This new loaner station will provide people who need them with the greatest single tool to prevent accidental drowning – a working life jacket.”

The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting and address SCDNR officers with any questions.
