Lexington Police to Offer Child Seat Checks

The Lexington Police Department is continuing to promote child passenger seat safety with a drive-thru child seat check Wednesday,

Child Passenger Seat Technicians will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the front of the Town of Lexington Municipal Building at 111 Maiden Lane. Bojangles will be providing sausage biscuits and coffee to those who come and have their child’s car seat checked.

Officers, who are certified CPS technicians, will be checking to make sure car seats are installed correctly and instruct parents on the best passenger seat types for their child’s age and weight range.  CPS Technicians will also make sure a car seat has not been recalled or in need of replacement. A child’s safety while riding within a vehicle is always important and making sure that their car seat is installed correctly is easy for a CPS technician to check.

“A child’s safety whenever they are in a car seat is so important and the fact that at least eight out of ten child seats checked are improper only highlights the need for parents to take advantage of these child seat check events,” said Chief Terrence Green. “We’re still within the ‘100 Deadliest Days of Summer’ and a properly fit and installed child car seat may make all the difference during the event of a vehicle collision.”
