The JDRF Palmetto Chapter will celebrate another successful year of the South Carolina community coming together to raise funds towards a cure for type 1 diabetes at their Annual Meeting at the Columbia Museum of Art Wednesday at 6 p.m.
JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, and it is thanks to the efforts of thousands of people throughout the state that the Palmetto Chapter is able to have the impact it has each year. Highlights of the evening will be the presentation of the Volunteer of the Year Award and the installation of new officers, including Columbia native Jonathan Barbrey as the President of the Board of Directors.
As part of the agenda, Tom Brobson, National Director of Research Opportunities will provide an exciting JDRF research update. Brobson said “this is an incredibly exciting time in T1D research – in the past we’ve talked about “light on the horizon” but today we can talk about very concrete advances quickly becoming available for use by the T1D community. Just as importantly we see an increasing number of early advances now starting to be actively tested in humans meaning the pipeline of new therapies continues to grow…I look forward to talking about all of it while in Columbia.”
