The 2017 Lexington Medical Center Irmo Okra Strut will be held Friday, September 29th and Saturday, September 30th at the Irmo Community Park at 7507 Eastview Drive in Irmo, S.C.
“The big news is that we are extending the festival into a second night with major acts both evenings,” said Larry Slaughter, Chairman of the Okra Strut Commission. “We have a fun and eclectic mix of music booked this year, and it will make for a great time for everyone.”
Friday night will have The Finesse Band featuring Terence Young opening for the Root Doctors. On Saturday, The Blue Pickups will return opening for Mothers Finest.
Mothers Finest is an American funk rock band founded in Atlanta, Georgia that made a lot of waves on the charts in the mid- to late 70s. The Root Doctors, from Columbia, are known as the greatest party band from the Southeast.
The Okra Strut is a two day festival featuring live music, The Okra Strut Parade, carnival rides, arts & crafts, food and drink concessions, and an Okra Eating Contest. Each year the festival draws more than 50,000 people to Irmo.
The Okra Strut is a free festival and requires no admission price. Individual fees do apply for rides, amusements, and food and beverage concessions.
“Proceeds from the festival are put back into the community through charitable contributions,” said Slaughter. “This year we were able to award scholarships to one Irmo High student and one Dutch Fork High student. We also funded an upgrade to the electrical system at Irmo Community Park.”
Okra Strut sponsorships are still available until August 31, 2017. For more information about sponsorships, event times and other announcements, visit the Okra Strut website at www.OkraStrut.com.
