Columbia, S.C. – United Way of the Midlands, in partnership with Transitions, Salvation Army of the Midlands and the City of Columbia, will operate the Inclement Weather Center at 191 Calhoun on nights when the temperature is expected to drop to 40 degrees or below between November 1 and March 31.

A decision to open the Center will be made daily at noon. Outdoor signage about openings and closures will be posted daily at Transitions, City Hall and Richland Library.

Adult men and women may access the Center by bus with pick-up and drop-off in front of the Clean of Heart offices at 1219 Laurel Street between 6 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Advanced registration is not required.

Transitions will oversee the operations, staffing and volunteers as well as provide assistance with connecting individuals and resources. The Salvation Army will prepare hot meals for dinner along with a small breakfast and services such as showers. The shelter will close every morning by 7:30 a.m.
