Historic Columbia Offers Events for All Ages in Second Half of June

The Midlands’ Famously Hot summer has unofficially begun, and Historic Columbia is offering a variety of ways to cool off and have a good time while learning more about the city’s past. The menu includes events for adults. fun for the whole family, and a camp designed especially for kids.

The Palladium Society’s Renovation Rodeo | Cottontown
Tuesday, June 14 | 6 – 7:30pm
HC’s Palladium Society continues this popular tour series in 2016! Presented by Modern Exterminating, Renovation Rodeos take us on a tour of old homes and buildings in the Columbia area that have been refurbished and renovated while staying true to the roots and history of the house. This June, we will visit a residential location in Cottontown and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres provided by The War Mouth, as well as beer and wine during the event! Not a member of HC’s young professional society? Join today! Reservations are required. Free for Palladium Society members | $5 non-members.

Historic Happy Hour | Victorian Tailgating!
Friday, June 17 | 5:30 – 7pm
Join Historic Columbia for happy hour at the Woodrow Wilson Family Home as we try our skill at 19th century outdoor games. Participants will have a chance to play Bocce, Croquet, Hoop & Stick, and Graces while sipping on a cold drink. Woodrow Wilson was known for his athleticism as a teenager while living in Columbia and would have been familiar with these popular games of the 19th century. Enjoy history, drinks and games at our Victorian Tailgate! Must be 21+ | $15 members | $20 non-members.

Dollar Sunday | Woodrow Wilson Family Home
Sunday, June 19 | 1 – 4pm
Residents of Richland and Lexington Counties are invited to take a guided tour of one of our historic house museums for just $1! This month, visit the Woodrow Wilson Family Home for Dollar Sunday. General admission prices apply for any house tours after the first. Walk-ins welcome! Tours leave at the top of the hour from 1 pm – 4 pm. Purchase admission and meet for tours at the Gift Shop at Robert Mills.

Past Adventures! HC Summer Camp
June 20 – 24 | 9am – 4pm
History will come to life through interactive activities and exploration of the gardens, grounds, and houses of Historic Columbia. Campers ages 8 to 12 are invited to take an adventure in time as we explore what it was like to live in the past!

Travel back in time this summer with Historic Columbia! Over the course of five days, campers will experience what life was like in the past through games, crafts, and fun activities. Beginning with the space race of the 1960s and ending with the founding of Columbia in the 1780s, campers will travel further back each day to interact with the technology, culture, games, music, and entertainment popular in famously hot Columbia throughout the years. Member cost $160. Non-member $200. Camp is open to all children ages 8-12.
