Two students at Gilbert Elementary combined to read nearly 25,000 pages this fall, winning a contest sponsored by the University of South Carolina and Gamecock Athletics.

Third-Grader Jeremiah D. Gillion and Fifth-Grader Wilson B. Oxner won their grade levels during the fall session of Read with the Gamecocks. For their accomplishment, they received game tickets and a plaque.

With 15,700 pages read, Oxner won first place in all grade levels. Gillion totaled 8,800 pages to best all other third-graders.

Read with the Gamecocks hosts three reading challenges each year, challenging students to form good literacy habits and giving them the opportunity to attend Gamecock sporting events.
