GHS announces Allman and McCartha as Athletic Hall of Fame inductees

Gilbert, S.C. ‹ Gilbert High recently announced its two latest Athletic Hall of Fame inductees.

Former Gilbert High Coach Bill Allman was one of the honored inductees. From 1992­2013, Coach Allman coached Gilbert High boys tennis, girls tennis, boys basketball and girls basketball. During his coaching career, Allman started the boys tennis team at GHS. The team had an impressive record of 252-119 during his coaching career.

Allman was a 12-time Region Coach of the Year and a two-time Upper/Lower State Runner Up. With the 252 wins in boys tennis, he is ranked as the seventh all-time winningest coach for boys tennis in South Carolina.

Allman taught at Gilbert High School for 27 years from 1986­2013. He and his wife Susan live in Irmo and have three children.

Carlee McCartha Myers was also inducted into the GHS Athletic Hall of Fame. She is a 1997 Gilbert High graduate. While attending Gilbert High, she played on the volleyball team, softball team, basketball team and the golf team.

Myers participated in Gilbert sports from 1991­1997. While at Gilbert, she lettered all four years as a setter in volleyball, three years as a second baseman in softball, three years as a point guard in basketball and one year in golf.

In volleyball, Myers had a 92% serving average, averaged 5.5 points per game and had 712 assists during her senior year. In 1996, she was a member of the state championship team that went 38-0 for the season.

During Myers’ senior year on the softball team, her batting average was .327.

She received many honors during her athletic career, including being named All Region in volleyball, softball and basketball, and All State in volleyball and softball. She was selected to play on the North-South All-Star volleyball and softball teams. In 1995, she played on the Upstate Invitational All Tournament volleyball team and the Gilbert Indian Christmas Class All Tournament basketball team. In 1997, she was on the class 2A Independent Softball Team.

Myers attended Columbia College and was a Scholar Athlete while playing setter for the Koalas. She was Team Captain both her junior and senior years and won the Coach¹s Award.

Myers is the lead teacher for the Center for Media Arts and Design at River Bluff High and owns her own photography business.

Myers and her husband, Bryce, have four children.
