Foxfield to Host Songwriters’ Serenade

The Palmetto Songwriters Association is hosting its quarterly Songwriter’s Serenade event. This showcase, presented in the round, will feature Kenley Young, Tonya Tyner, and Richard Strater on the outdoor stage starting at 8 p.m. Nov. 11 at Foxfield Bar and Grille.

A longtime veteran of the Columbia, S.C., music scene, Kenley Young left for Los Angeles after the release of his 2009 LP release, Standard Candle. After a nearly six-year stint out West, the singer- songwriter is back in the famously hot Soda City with a follow-up release, Seneca Guns, slated for later this year. Kenley’s influences are founded in rock but varied with hints of Elvis Costello, Elliott Smith, Jason Isbell and even Toad the Wet Sprocket in his work. Find him at http://www.kenleyyoung.com/, and on iTunes, SoundCloud and Bandcamp.

Tonya Tyner was born in Kansas although she is a Spring Valley and Carolina graduate. Her gypsy heart has given her plenty of colorful adventures to draw on and time to hone her songwriting and her crystalline vocal delivery. She returned to the Columbia area after a formative stint in Austin which produced her 2012 debut release, Beautiful Light. Compared to Emmylou and Jewel, she crafts intentional lyrics with unforgettable melodies blending country, folk and blues. Mostly performing solo or with a small supporting ensemble, she is also half of the Folk Rock duo, The Dawn Key Shotguns. Find her on SoundCloud, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc. and at http://www.tonyatyner.com.

Richard Strater was born in West Palm Beach, FL but has lived the majority of his life in the Greater Columbia area. After a few years of fronting the alt-rock band, Lost in the Middle, he is now touring solo promoting his 2014 EP release, The Pessimistic Troubadour, recorded at Strawberry Skys Recording Studio in West Columbia. With an alternative indie folk vibe, Strater pairs contemplative lyrics with driving chords reminiscent of a bigger band sound and delivered with a strong voice. Expect intention, a baritone reminiscent of Core-era STP and a bit of grit. Find him at http://www.richstratermusic.webs.com and on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, etc.
