Hip-hop legend FatRat Da Czar returns to Columbia’s biggest music stage on New Year’s Eve with his 6-piece live band, crowning the performance in advance with a Christmas Day release of his first new single in five years.
Coming off an award-winning year (Free Times Best Local Hip-Hop Artist and 2017 Jasper Artist of the Year in Music), Czar closes out 2017 at Famously Hot New Year, performing along with Grammy-nominated Nappy Roots and Elle King in front of an estimated crowd of 24,000.
“Over the years, I’ve evolved as a musician and although I’m not taking a new direction artistically, I’m coming into 2018 with a new approach that includes more live instrumentation,” explained Czar. “There is no better platform than Famously Hot New Year to display my latest vibes for a city that has supported my career for so long.”
The single, titled “One Shot,” releases December 25 and is the perfect embodiment of Czar’s new approach for a new year. Backed by a full band that includes well-known and established Columbia musicians like Evan Simmons (bass), Sharon Gnanashekar (keyboard), Steve Sancho (drums), Devin Lail (percussion), and Michael Rouse (guitar), Czar’s new single is about transition and change.
Joining a genre-smashing New Year’s Eve lineup featuring rock-and-blues maven Elle King (“Ex’s and Oh’s” and “America’s Sweetheart”) and four-man Southern hip-hop collective Nappy Roots (“Good Day” and “Po’ Folks”), FatRat Da Czar and his live band take the stage on Sunday, December 31 at 7:50 PM, playing a one-hour set. The festival gates open at 6:30 PM to this free, all-ages event.
The new single, “One Shot,” will be available on December 25 for streaming and downloading on all major digital platforms.
