The seventh annual “Operation Spread the Joy” project is once again collecting items and monetary donations to distribute Christmas Eve morning to downtown Columbia’s homeless. The gifts will be distributed in front of Hope Plaza and the Christ Central Ministries building on Main Street December 24.

“Joy” volunteers will be available now through Saturday, December 16 at several drop-off locations throughout Columbia, Lexington, Irmo, Chapin, and West Columbia to accept contributions: Debi & Co. Salon, 2401-B Dutch Fork Road in Chapin; the Law Offices of Bothwell Graham, 6326 St. Andrews Road in St. Andrews; Salon Bella, 4711 Forest Drive, Unit 17 in Columbia; Tropical Smoothie Café’s three locations, 150 Harbison Boulevard in the Irmo/Columbia area, 5166 Sunset Boulevard, Suite H in Lexington, and also 650 Lincoln Street in downtown Columbia near the USC campus; and Unity Karate Academy, 7949 Broad River Road in Irmo.

The project’s goal this year is to collect enough items to fill 150 reusable grocery-sized bags.

They are in need of:

Fleece blankets
Gloves (mens)
Socks (mens athletic)
Full bars of soap
Hand sanitizer
Knit hats (adult)
Hygiene wipes
Small packages of pads/panty liners
Travel sized hygiene products
Reusable grocery bags

Monetary donations or gift cards are also greatly appreciated. For more information, contact Heather Malovic at 803-414-2115 or Shears74@yahoo.com.
