LEXINGTON, S.C. — The Lexington County School District One Educational Foundation highlights local celebrities as it presents its fifth annual Dancing with the Stars Lexington on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 7 p.m. The event, modeled after ABC’s hit television show “Dancing with the Stars,” takes place at the Lexington One Performing Arts Center located on the campus of River Bluff High School.
Local celebrities partner with professional dancers from Columbia’s Ballroom Company to form 12 competing couples.
All funds raised from this year’s event will support Lexington District One students, teachers and schools through educational programs such as the 21st Century Innovation Grants for Elementary Schools. This grant program currently funds International Baccalaureate training for Lexington Elementary educators, the creation of a Personalized Learning Lab at Red Bank Elementary, leadership training for students and staff at Rocky Creek Elementary, and brain-based education training at New Providence Elementary.
Each year, the Educational Foundation builds partnerships with individuals and corporations that enhance educational opportunities for Lexington One students and strengthen the local community.
Tickets for Dancing with the Stars Lexington are $25 per person prior to the event and $30 the day of the event. Prior to the event, individuals can purchase tickets online at www.dancingwiththestarslexington.com or at the Educational Foundation office located at 100 Tarrar Springs Road in Lexington. On the evening of the event, individuals can purchases tickets at RBHS from 5:30 until 6:45 p.m.
The 2017 local celebrity dancers include: WACH FOX Chief Meteorologist Dana Fulton; Dr. Jamie Gomez of Palmetto Smiles; Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees Member Anne Marie Green; Lexington High French Teacher Amanda Hajji; Mr. Joey Hardee of PASCON and Joey’s Sub & Sandwich Shop in Gilbert; Capt. Adam Myrick of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department; Jennifer Pitts of Palmetto Health Richland; Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative Vice President for Member Services Troy Simpson; Meadow Glen Middle School Academic Dean Natalie Osborne Smith, Ed.D.; WIS News 10 Anchor Allie Spillyards; Dr. David Stallard of Lexington Women’s Care; and Laura Sturkie of MUV Fitness.
In addition to competing for the Judges Award presented the night of the event, the dancers also compete for the coveted People’s Choice Awards. Friends and family can support any one of the local celebrity dancers by voting in the People’s Choice Awards.
