Cottontown Brew Lab will be holding its launch party from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, Iat Indah Coffee Company (2238 Sumter St. Columbia, SC 29201). The event will feature six beers located inside and outside as well as live music brought to you by The Reason Your Listening.

The War Mouth will provide catfish stew at no cost to patrons as a hot option on what could be a cold day. The event will feature $3 pours of all Cottontown Brew Lab beers.

Cottontown Brew Lab was started by Zack Jones, a software developer by trade, and Brandon Evans, who serves as Head Brewer. Justin Petrey is assistant brewer as well as lead guitarist in Saturday’s entertainment, The Reason Your Listening.

Cottontown Brew Lab started as a dream of a couple home brewers and quickly grew into an exciting endeavor. The road to a production brewery has been a long one, but there are currently three flagship beers available around Columbia: Tropicarolina, an easy drinking tropical IPA; Blue Zip Tie, a traditional IPA with restrained bitterness and fruitiness; and a Coffee Stout made with cold brew from Indah Coffee Company.

After a search of many available spots, Jones picked the location in historic Cottontown due to the neighborhood’s sense of community and togetherness. Jones felt that both traits are trademarks of the craft brewing industry and make the neighborhood the perfect place to set up a production brewery. Future expansions will include added capacity to the already existing brew house as well as a tasting room. A canning line and possible restaurant are also in the plans for the future.
