Construction to Temporarily Close Two Richland Library Locations

Columbia, SC– In an effort to expedite construction and ensure the safety of our customers, Richland Library is temporarily closing our Northeast location (7490 Parklane Road) and Wheatley location (931 Woodrow Street) at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 1. Both projects are expected to last 12-18 months.

Because both properties are restricted, we are prohibited from housing a temporary cottage at either site. Therefore, customers have to select an alternate pick-up location for their holds online. Other options include our Main, North Main, Sandhills and Southeast locations.

It has been more than 20 years since any improvements have been made to Richland Library Northeast or Richland Library Wheatley. At the Northeast location, customers can look forward to a teaching kitchen, large meeting room and exterior improvements. Meanwhile, a designated children’s area, nursing mother’s room and patio space await customers at the Wheatley location.

The nearly $5 million renovation at Northeast and the more than $1 million renovation at Wheatley are made possible by Richland County residents with the passage of a $59 million bond referendum back in 2013. We will continue to use that money to enhance our library facilities over the next couple years.
