Committed, Winners of NBC Show “The Sing-Off,” Bring R&B-Pop Harmonies to Harbison Theatre, October 23, 2015

Committed – the gospel-Pop accappella group Committedpop crossover a cappella sensation – won America’s hearts as champions of the second season of NBC’s hit musical competition show, “The Sing-Off.” Now, they’ll win over hearts of Midlands residents as they take the stage for a one-night-only, live performance at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 7:30 p.m.

The five members of Committed, who have been singing together since 2003 in high school in Apopka, FL, use a unique blend of harmonic vocals to cover popular ballads from the likes of Maroon 5, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Rascal Flatts and One Direction. They also produce inspiring, gospel-infused original songs – inducing chills and smiles for audiences across the nation.

“We are so excited to have the winners of ‘The Sing-Off’ on our stage!” says Katie Fox, Executive Director at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College. “Their lifelong commitment to their music – and the exceptional bonds of their friendships with one another – show through in their performances.”

The group is made up of Therry Thomas, Dennis Baptiste, Geston Pierre, Robert Pressley and Maurice Staple. Graduates of the religiously affiliated historically black college Oakwood University in Huntsville, Ala., Committed attributes much of their success to their hard work and faith.

“We love to inspire people and tell our story about how far we’ve come along in our journey, and to tell people that there is nothing that you cannot do,” says Committed member Geston Pierre. “The best part of what we do is seeing the joy and inspiration we can provide to people. We’ve had a chance to sing all over the country and all over the world, and just seeing the reaction [of our audiences]; seeing the power of music is really special.”

Nick Lachey, host of the “The Sing-Off” and member of now-retired megastar boy band 98 Degrees, tells People.com “…Committed’s sound is just incredible. They’re great singers, but they’re even better people. I think that’s why America fell in love with them.”

“We have so many good memories from ‘The Sing-Off;’ from meeting the celebrities and judges on the show, and the host, Nick Lachey,” Pierre says. “We really enjoyed everything about it, even though it had its challenges – because it is a competition – but our competitors were like family to us. Even to this day, we still keep in touch with the other groups from ‘The Sing-Off.’”

Committed has performed across the globe in live concerts and appearances, including on NBC’s “The Today Show,” at the NAACP Image Awards and at the Dove Awards. Their self-titled debut album was released through Epic Records in August of 2011, and the group has a holiday album, Home For Christmas, released in December 2014.

“We all have a capability for doing great things,” notes Pierre. “So many times we doubt ourselves and doubt what we can do and the impact that we can make. But work hard on your dreams and goals, and you’d be surprised as to the things that can happen in your life – and the doors that can open.”

“We’re looking forward to having a good time with everybody at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College on October 23,” notes Pierre. “We can’t wait.”
