Columbia’s talented youth take us on a magic carpet ride with Aladdin Jr.

Town Theatre’s youth program is sure to charm the crowd on April 13, 14, and 15 with their production of Disney’s Aladdin Jr. The show features two talented youth theatre casts who will send the audience on a magic carpet ride through the adventures of Aladdin, Jasmine, the evil villain Jafar, and all of the other famous characters in this classic story of magic, mayhem, and don’t forget- love.

Prior to the show, the youth theatre program allows children to attend a class once a week for eight weeks in which they learn more about theatre and expand on their talents. They are able to audition for certain roles if they so choose, and then they come together with another class for two weeks as they work diligently on the production. Their short time frame to put the show together makes their exceptional performance even more impressive.

I got the opportunity to take a magic carpet ride with Maddie Roberts, the talented 11-year-old actress who is playing the younger Jasmine out of the two casts. We briefly discussed her background, along with her excitement for the show. She even sang a little bit of, “A Whole New World,” which she says is her favorite part about playing Jasmine.
