Columbia Police to Host Cookout Fundraiser for Injured Officer

Columbia Police Officer Peter Conklin almost lost his life in the line of duty May 24. Friday, his brothers and sisters in blue are inviting the whole community to lunch at police headquarters to thank Conklin and raise money to help cover his expenses.

The Blue Line Cookout starts at 11 a.m. Friday at Columbia Police Department headquarters at 1 Justice Square in downtown Columbia. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for lunch, and donations will be accepted throughout the event, will all proceeds going to help pay for Conklin’s expenses.

Conklin was hit by a car May 24 on I-126 while working a collision between two other vehicles. Doctors said he might not have survived without the fast action of off-duty paramedic David Brown, who was passing by the scene and stopped to help.

Conklin spent time hospitalized and intensive care after the injury, and is now recovering at home.

Those who wish to help Officer Conklin but cannot attend the cookout can donate online.
