Columbia Museum of Art Selects Opportunity Resources as Executive Director Search Firm

Columbia, S.C. – Opportunity Resources Inc., a New York-based executive search form for nonprofit cultural institutions, has been selected by the Columbia Museum of Art to conduct the search for the CMA’s next executive director.

President and CEO Freda Mindlin and Vice President Nancy Kaufman will visit Columbia this week as part of their initial site visit and assessment to inform the search for the idea candidate to lead the CMA during an exciting period of growth.

“We conducted a thorough RFP process and considered five different firms with expertise in executive hires for museums,” says CMA Search Committee Chair Earl Ellis. “Opportunity Resources has a tenured and respected history in this industry and demonstrated great attention to finding candidates who ideally match with the needs of similarly sized institutions. We’re looking to collaborate with Freda and her firm to find a leader who can take us from a position of strength on to even greater things.”

The CMA is embarking on a renovation this summer that will yield an additional 11,000 square feet in exhibition, education, and event space and add a public entrance on Main Street.

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with the Columbia Museum of Art,” says Mindlin. “They have an impressive trajectory. With recent awards including winning the distinguished National Medal for Museum and Library Service as well as the 2016 Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Award for the Arts, I have no doubts this museum and talented staff will attract many strong candidates.”
