Columbia invites all to explore city in Famously Hot Scavenger Hunt

This Saturday brings a chance for you to check out some of the Columbia area’s hottest spots and tourist attractions, and potentially win big prizes just by participating in the Famously Hot Scavenger Hunt.

The free and family-friendly event, organized by the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism, starts Saturday at 10 a.m. at Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center at 1101 Lincoln Street in the Vista. Teams of four will receive their first clue there, then set out on a tour of downtown Columbia. Each clue will lead the teams to a different spot, where they will check in by posting a photo on social media.

Everyone who completes the scavenger hunt by checking in at each location will be eligible for prizes including tickets to see the Columbia Fireflies or visit Riverbanks Zoo & Garden, gift certificates from local businesses, and “Famously Hot” T-shirts and tumblers. The winners will be drawn at random from all those who finish the hunt and announced by May 14.

The scavenger hunt is free, but participants are encouraged to register online in advance. The event is part of the Midlands’ recognition of National Travel and Tourism week, which ends Saturday. According to the Midlands Authority for Conventions, Sports & Tourism, Columbia is a $1.9 billion industry in Columbia. Approximately 14.5 million people visit the Midlands each year, with approximately 5.4 million staying overnight and using local hotels.
