Columbia Chamber Seeks Applicants for Midlands Leadership Program

The Columbia Chamber’s leadership program, Leadership Columbia, is now taking applications for the Class of 2018. Founded in 1972, the program is a 10-month course designed to provide our community with an enduring source of leaders who are prepared and committed to serving their region. Roughly 60 applicants will be selected this summer as the 45thClass of Leadership Columbia.

“Leadership Columbia builds the next generation of volunteers, CEOs, board members and entrepreneurs in our community,” says Carl Blackstone, Columbia Chamber President and CEO, “The graduates of each class leave dedicated to making positive and lasting impact in the Midlands.”

A skills-building program, Leadership Columbia aims to: identify and motivate emerging community leaders; provide an educational experience with a strong emphasis on social and community awareness; and challenge participants to apply their talents within their community while providing an opportunity to become involved

“Leadership Columbia has a long history of providing potential leaders in Columbia with a foundation for making a difference. Our board has worked hard to integrate tangible leadership tools and skills development into the programming we offer. We are thrilled to continue shaping the program to fit the needs of our evolving community so that we can develop the best and brightest talent Columbia has to offer into the leaders we need and deserve.” Says current Leadership Columbia Advisory Board Chair, Josh Elliott.

The class curriculum includes an in-depth look at the critical issues and opportunities within the community. Through hands-on experiences the candidates fully explore topics such as: education, politics, government, arts, economic development, finance, health services, criminal justice, law enforcement, military affairs, tourism and many more.

“Leadership Columbia provides the unique experience to be able to work closely with the best and brightest in different industries, with each individual bringing a different perspective to the class as a whole,” says Marshall Tinsley Minton, Leadership Columbia Advisory Board Chair-Elect.
