City of Columbia celebrates Bike Month

At their May 1, 2018 meeting, City Council proclaimed May to be Bike Month and Bicycle Safety Month in the City of Columbia.   The City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) Co-Chairs echoed the sentiments of the proclamation.

Co-Chair Christina Galardi explained, “Bike Month highlights biking as a growing mode of transportation, encouraging our community to bike as a form of recreation or means to travel to work or school. If it’s your first time biking around Columbia, Bike Month activities are a great opportunity to try a ride in a fun, supportive atmosphere.”

“Bike Month features several events to promote bike safety, like the Ride of Silence on May 16,” said Co-Chair Scott Thorpe.  Whether traveling by car or bike, it is important to be respectful of our neighbors and share the road.”

The City of Columbia celebrates throughout the month with a variety of activities, and a calendar of events is available here:https://www.columbiasc.net/planning-preservation/bpac/bike-month.
