At 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 10, enjoy a special Second Sunday Roll to Eastover for a tour of the historic Goodwill Plantation. Come discover the history of this property and its inhabitants since 1795. Admission to this tour includes refreshments, and registration is required.
This Second Sunday Roll meets at the Robert Mills Carriage House, 1616 Blanding Street. Admission for HC members is $15 for adults and $10 for youth, and non-member admission is $20 for adults and $15 for youth. Grab a flashlight and explore one of Elmwood Cemetery, one of Columbia¹s oldest cemeteries, on Thursday, Aug. 14 on one of two tour options:
- The Secrets from the Grave tour starts before dark at 7:30 p.m. to allow attendees to study the iconography symbols found on so many of the markers and headstones in the cemetery.
- The Moonlight Cemetery Tours at 8 and 8:30 p.m. discuss the lives, burials, cemetery plots and tombstones of families and prominent citizens from Columbia’s 19th and 20th centuries.
An event the whole family will enjoy, HC’s cemetery tours are $12 for non-member adults, $6 for non-member youth (17 and under), $8 for HC member adults and $4 for HC member youth. Richland and Lexington County residents are invited to take a tour of one of Historic Columbia¹s house museums for only $1 on Sunday, Aug. 17. Tours are offered on the hour from 1 pm to 4 pm, with the last tours starting at 4 pm. Dollar Sunday is offered on the third Sunday of each month and applies for the Robert Mills House, Hampton-Preston Mansion and the Mann-Simons Site.
