Batesburg-Leesville, SC– The Town of Batesburg-Leesville is thrilled to have honored Lexington School District 3 Board Member Stacey Derrick on December 14, 2015 for her heroic action in resuscitation efforts on an unconscious child. She was presented a Hometown Hero Award by the Batesburg-Leesville Town Council.
On Thursday, November 19, 2015, Stacey witnessed a vehicle accident and found a child unconscious and not breathing. She instinctually utilized her CPR training and administered life saving methods, which increased emergency personnel’s ability to resuscitate the child. Her ability to be proficient and remain calm under pressure resulted in this spontaneous and heroic act that prolonged the child’s life until first responders arrived on scene.
Mayor Rita Crapps said, “Stacey demonstrated her character and compassion for the welfare of others, personifying the collective concern of the citizens of Batesburg-Leesville who respond without the thought of danger or reward when others are in need of help. We are so proud to have Stacey Derrick be a part of our community and honor her with this award.”
A resolution in Stacey’s honor was presented at the December 14th Batesburg-Leesville Town Council meeting to recognize her for her heroic act.
