AT&T1 announced the rollout of its ultra-fast internet service on its 100% fiber network powered by AT&T Fiber.SM AT&T Internet 1000, their fastest speed tier, is available to consumers and small businesses in parts of the City of Columbia, including areas of Richland County and surrounding communities. 2 The expansion of local fiber service provides high-speed connectivity to 15 apartment complexes and multifamily properties in the area, with additional locations added as the network expands.
Columbia is currently one of 49 metros nationwide with ultra-fast internet availability, and AT&T has plans to extend high speed internet service to be in at least 67 total metro areas. AT&T markets a gigabit internet connection3 to nearly 4 million customer locations (including 650,000 condo and apartment units), with plans to reach at least 12.5 million locations by mid-2019.
“We are excited to add Columbia to the growing list of areas in South Carolina where our 100 percent fiber network is bringing customers our fastest internet speeds” stated Marvy Moore, Vice President and General Manager of AT&T for Georgia and South Carolina. “At AT&T, we are committed to innovation and offering cutting-edge technologies to enhance the many ways our customers live, work and play.”
“AT&T is committed to extending access to ultra-fast internet in the greater Columbia area because our customers are increasingly interacting with their world in more data-intensive ways,” said Ted Creech, director of External Affairs for AT&T South Carolina. “A growing number of people are streaming content directly from their devices, transferring larger files for work and interacting with family and friends through live videos. For these reasons, we are proud to now offer our fastest internet speeds in Columbia and its surrounding communities.”
“The 100% fiber network from AT&T will contribute to our growing economy and high quality of life in Columbia,” said Mayor Steve Benjamin. “Access to high-speed internet will help create new jobs, grow small businesses and improve access to educational opportunities.”
Internet-only pricing for customers who choose AT&T Internet 1000, the fastest speed tier available on their 100% fiber network, starts as low as $80 a month with a 12 month commitment. 4 Customers can then choose to add additional services such as their award winning DIRECTV services.
AT&T has invested more than $800 million in its wireless and wireline networks in South Carolina between 2013 through 2015, with more than $200 million of that in Columbia. This drives upgrades to reliability, coverage, speed and performance for residents and business customers.
