2016 Summer Institute at Columbia College

Summer 2016 marks the 26th year of the Summer Institute at Columbia College, through which more than 1,700 woman have taken their first steps to becoming successful leaders.

The series motivates and empowers middle and high school-aged young women to become effective leaders and members of their community. It provides participants with skill development in communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, goal setting, decision making, team-building, combined with tools for academic and personal success. The Summer Institute served 130 girls in 2015, providing financial-need based scholarships for more than 50% of participants through support provided by generous donors.

This year we will be offering four unique, week-long summer camps serving rising 9-12th grade girls with individual leadership gifts. The Summer Institute programs include:

  • Step Up (June 26 – July 1): Establish the foundation of leadership. For rising 9th graders.
  • Step In (July 10 – 15): Build your leadership framework. For rising 10-11th graders.
  • Step Above (July 10 – 15): Become a future ready leader. For rising 11-12th graders.
  • Step Ahead (June 27 – July 1): Cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit. New day camp for rising 10-12th graders.
